Teresa Moore

About Teresa

Teresa Moore, MD, serves as Vice President of Networking and Educational Development.  She has practiced allopathic medicine for over twenty years in rural Virginia while including many holistic approaches in her healing  practice. She is level one certified in Reiki, is a certified sexual health educator, and has completed coursework in medical intuition in addition to her medical degree.  She has personally practiced aromatherapy and various types of meditation for over thirty years and is fascinated by the mind-emotional-physical-spiritual body connections in health, wellness, and disease.  

 

She has been on the faculty of Edward Via School of Osteopathic Medicine, associated with Virginia Tech, for over 10 years serving as a preceptor for underserved care.  Twice she has  received the award for Clinical Educator of the year-Southside area, presented by the classes of 2015 and 2016, and has individually precepted over 80 medical, nurse practitioner, and physician assistant students through her position with Virginia Tech and other institutions.  

 

Teresa wrote a philosophical column “Life on Purpose,” for The Southside Messenger from 2006-2011, as well as having many articles published in ECHO.  In addition, she wrote a healthcare column for Footnotes, a towing and recovery trade magazine for a couple of years.

 

Having had many experiences for growth in her lifetime, she has used these experiences to help others especially in times of transition.  She has presented workshops, seminars, and keynotes at the local, state, and national level focusing on personal empowerment and how our beliefs shape our lives, as well as how to survive the curve balls that life sometimes throws us.

Debbie Vigneri


Debbie Vigneri

Debbie Vigneri serves as secretary for Turning Point Healing Retreat Center. She has a strong background in education and program development, as well as in healing and teaching. Following her passion for the planet and its diverse communities, she spent a two year odyssey with the Audubon Expedition traveling the wildernesses of North America, British Columbia, and Mexico while earning her Master’s Degree in science.

 

As a National Park Service ranger, Debbie developed and piloted many programs geared towards connecting people with nature and promoting a sense of well-being and stewardship. She was instrumental in obtaining grants and funding for programs that included children from the inner-city and those with socioeconomic challenges. Some of her programs are still used to this day. In addition, Debbie taught middle school earth science in both the public and private sectors creating special programs designed to capture the students’ passion and interest in the Sciences.

 

For the past 10 years Debbie has been co-creator of a thriving massage therapy business while also teaching classes on health and wellness. She consistently learns new modalities to enhance her clients’ experience of health and healing. With advanced training in Cranio-Sacral and Somatic Experiencing Therapies, she facilitates the connection between Mind, Body, and Energy. Debbie is also a Reiki master, leading community training and Reiki circles. She is a certified yoga instructor teaching a recurring class, “Mindful Motion Yoga,” in the Kripalu Yoga Tradition.  In addition, she is studying and teaching Ayerveda (science of yoga), using its ancient principles for health, nutrition, and well-being to help others heal in the present.

 

She has served for three years on an international Board of Trustees of a nonprofit 12 step recovering fellowship and co-founded an international group, RCA TrailBlazers, which meets virtually around the world. Debbie is one of the original visionaries of Turning Point Healing Retreat Center, and she hopes that it will serve the world by creating a community of like-minded and like-hearted healers dedicated to serving and teaching those in need.

Give me singleness of purpose, strength to lift up part of the burden of my suffering fellow men and women, and a true realization of the privilege that is mine. Ruth brown


Ruth Brown

Ruth Brown serves as president of Turning Point Healing Retreat Center. Ruth enlisted in the US Air Force in 1977 beginning a long career in service. For over 30 years she worked in various fields including computer support, database software design, and organizational consulting with experience in change and project management. From there, Ruth transitioned to the healing services, and has been co-owner of a healing business in upstate New York for the last ten years. Her diverse background in many service industries, her life experiences, and her experience with 12 Step Programs provides a unique backdrop for her vision of Turning Point Healing Retreat Center. 

 

Believing that “knowledge is power,” Ruth has continuously pursued knowledge, experience, and personal growth. She is a licensed pilot, a licensed Captain, and holds a second degree black belt in karate. She is also a certified life coach, a licensed massage therapist and the creator/lead instructor of TDT Massage.  In addition, she was ordained as a minister in 1988.

 

Having served on the international Board of Trustees for a 12 step organization and as chairperson for two years, she continues to bring a vision of personal growth and recovery to the world. Her mission at Turning Point Healing Retreat Center is to help as many people as possible find healing, health, and hope. She envisions creating a sacred space, incorporating many therapeutic modalities, and offering diverse educational tools where people from all walks of life, faith, experience, race and gender can come to learn and grow.

JoAnne Stugart


JoAnne Stugart

JoAnne Stugart serves as treasurer of Turning Point Healing Retreat Center. She was the first to envision a healing center in the hills of Virginia. Her passion for empowering people has emerged in many ways often from the stance of teacher.  As a teacher in the public school system for over thirty years, she mentored a generation of young people nurturing their love of science and of nature. Turning Point Healing Retreat Center will serve as an educational space to bring her enthusiasm for Earth Science to others, connecting people with nature, helping to heal the body and soul, while planting and growing concepts and ideas that will ripple out to the world, one person at a time

 

Joanne’s experience teaching and creating programs for all ages and abilities has appeared countless times in classes, seminars and workshops. She acted as a life skills trainer in a program for teenagers enabling them to just say ”No” when in a detrimental life changing situation. Among other skills, she taught them meditation and relaxation techniques as well as mindful body awareness allowing the adolescent to stay centered in their own power. As a 7th degree black belt Master rank karate instructor, and co-owner of Okikukai Academy she taught Women’s Self Defense Seminars, Children’s Stranger Awareness classes, Defensive Techniques for octogenarians, and classes in developing awareness skills.

 

As a soccer referee and coach, and as a teacher of many aerobics and exercise classes, including those using her patented exercise tool, Dynaring, she has empowered thousands of people, and brings years of educational experience and organizational skills to the Center.  JoAnne emulates and teaches personal power, self-confidence and self-respect to all of those with whom she works.

JoHN Stugart


John Stugart

John Stugart is the Vice President of Facilities and Committee Development of Turning Point Healing Retreat Center. John singlehandedly created a design for our conference and healing center from thin air, conversations, and pencil sketches. He is a Vietnam War Era Army veteran who served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a surveyor.

 

John brings form and structure to the organization with his experience in detail and design. With a degree in Mechanical and Construction Technology, he formed Construction Specialties Detailing which utilized his expertise in designing and detailing buildings, offices, and residential projects.

 

His detail orientation was an asset as he trained in karate. Furthermore, he utilized his skills in teaching and leading as he became a 7th degree black belt master karate instructor and a co-founder of Okikukai Academy. In this position, he extended his passion for teaching martial arts specializing in self-defense techniques for young to adult practitioners.  Empowering his students with a sense of perseverance, spiritual healing, self-improvement, and personal growth is a testament of his quiet strengths.

 

John’s assistance with the planning and designing ensures that the center is accessible, functional and easily adaptable for any and all of the people it will serve. As Turning Point grows and flourishes, John’s continued stewardship will help us maintain our all-inclusive healing and environmentally sound growth.
