JoAnne Stugart serves as treasurer of Turning Point Healing Retreat Center. She was the first to envision a healing center in the hills of Virginia. Her passion for empowering people has emerged in many ways often from the stance of teacher. As a teacher in the public school system for over thirty years, she mentored a generation of young people nurturing their love of science and of nature. Turning Point Healing Retreat Center will serve as an educational space to bring her enthusiasm for Earth Science to others, connecting people with nature, helping to heal the body and soul, while planting and growing concepts and ideas that will ripple out to the world, one person at a time
JoAnne’s experience teaching and creating programs for all ages and abilities has appeared countless times in classes, seminars and workshops. She acted as a life skills trainer in a program for teenagers enabling them to just say ”No” when in a detrimental life changing situation. Among other skills, she taught them meditation and relaxation techniques as well as mindful body awareness allowing the adolescent to stay centered in their own power. As a 7th degree black belt Master rank karate instructor, and co-owner of Okikukai Academy she taught Women’s Self Defense Seminars, Children’s Stranger Awareness classes, Defensive Techniques for octogenarians, and classes in developing awareness skills.
As a soccer referee and coach, and as a teacher of many aerobics and exercise classes, including those using her patented exercise tool, Dynaring, she has empowered thousands of people, and brings years of educational experience and organizational skills to the Center. JoAnne emulates and teaches personal power, self-confidence and self-respect to all of those with whom she works.
Having served on the international Board of Trustees for a 12 step organization and as chairperson for two years, she continues to bring a vision of personal growth and recovery to the world. Her mission at Turning Point Healing Retreat Center is to help as many people as possible find healing, health, and hope. She envisions creating a sacred space, incorporating many therapeutic modalities, and offering diverse educational tools where people from all walks of life, faith, experience, race and gender can come to learn and grow.
