Year in Review

Consolidating Forces

Ruth & Deb House

This year our two out-of-state board members moved down to Virginia. Having bought the land beside Turning Point, Ruth & Debbie are currently building their house – a short walk away from where the center will be built. Ruth is working for TPHRC getting the programs organized and the grants submitted.  Debbie is offering numerous classes as well as providing healing services at TPHRC’s rented location in Kenbridge VA.  All five of our board members volunteered their time and service to the CAP program pilot.

CAP Walkers

CAP Success!

There were six graduates of our “Combating Arthritis Pain” (CAP) program.  The amazing success and results of the program has prompted TPHRC to run similar classes during the day and open to ALL (not just arthritis sufferers).  Requests were overwhelming from people who heard about CAP and saw the results in their friends and neighbors.  We are now “Combating Americas Pain”!

Americans in Motion (AIM)

We have a grant submitted to Health and Human Services to encourage physical activity in everyday life.  We are very excited about the research project “by the people & for the people”. Stay tuned for more information as it happens!

Building the Headquarters

We hope and plan that 2019 will be the year we build our headquarters in Meherrin VA.  It will have a large and a smaller conference room, treatment rooms, and offices.  Our intention is to use local facilities and resources as our events and programs mature and grow.

2018 Board

A Heart-felt Thanks

We, The Board of Turning Point Healing Retreat Center (TPHRC), extend our thanks to all who made it possible to receive a $500.00 grant from Walmart Corporation. These funds continue to support the beneficial programming that serves the community of Lunenburg County, in South Central Virginia.

Spring-hands

We have also received a $5,000.00 donation from Elzinga & Volkers Construction Professionals in Holland, Michigan.  EV is a company committed to helping people heal and grow. Its corporate structure promotes leading with the heart instead of the head.  In recognition, we are naming the new road to Turning Point “Unmistakable Way”, in acknowledgement of the book “Become Unmistakable” written about the company’s own journey to healing and success.

Our current program called CAP (Combating Arthritis Pain), is designed to quantitatively support the results of much research (Center of Disease Control study) indicating that movement, a sense of purpose and belonging, and mindfulness can reduce pain without the use of prescription drugs. TPHRC is using the expertise of its Board of Directors to implement mobility and strength training, as well as, yoga, walking and mindful motion. Our medical doctor, and other Board staff are carefully recording the results of vital signs and capabilities to use in this 6-week pilot program.

This generosity of these and many personal donors has given us the funding to offer this program free of charge to those in need. During this morning’s CAP class, participants had the opportunity to visit movement stations and do strength training and movements guided by their breath. I witnessed something incredible! I heard much laughter, and saw dear Spirits moving with joy and enjoyment. The courage to embrace a life that is inherent to all. How beautiful to watch! Our prayers, hopes and intentions continue in the effort to gain the financial support that will build our Retreat Center and continue to impact our community in ways never thought possible! Thanks for your continued support and helping our community and others everywhere!

Summer: The Season of Fruition

What do you think of when you hear the word summer? Heat, delicious fruits, growth, vegetation, adventure, movement, excitement, water play, thunder storms, sweat, feeling alive…

What does my age, Virginia, my yoga practice and Turning Point Healing Retreat Center have to do with summer?

Great question! Who what of thought that they all would meld together in this time and place. In South Central Virginia. At this turning point in my life!

Combating Arthritis Pain (CAP) Program

Turning Point Healing Retreat Center is developing and piloting a program that will offer a six-week CAP (Combating Arthritis Pain) therapy agenda that offers a “non-drug” solution to those diagnosed with mild or moderate Arthritis pain.  The first session starts in September of 2018 in Kenbridge, VA.

The goal of CAP is to teach and empower participants through a variety of techniques and tools, to help manage the debilitating effects of this disease and break the spiraling cycle of immobility, loss of activity, and degradation of quality of life.

There is NO cost to participants.

If you would like to be considered for this innovative program, please call (434) 808-1575, or go to our website: www.go-cap.org for an application. The pilot program will gather data to prove the programs’ quality and success. The number of participants in the first session is limited to ten.

The cost of a 6-week session is $4,500.  This program was originally inspired by a Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) federal grant. TPHRC was recommended for the grant this year, but not awarded any money, so our hope is to fund this program through corporate sponsors, local grants, and individual donations.  There is no cost to the participants of this program.

If you, or your organization would like to sponsor or contribute to this innovative program, or if you would like any other information regarding CAP, or TPHRC, please contact us.
